Tatting for a Wedding

My humble apologies for not having a post yesterday. Three things happened to prevent my post. Well, four if you count my sister being in town over the weekend. First, it was my dad's birthday and he requested no screen time yesterday. I obliged. Second, mom had an overnight stay for testing at the medical center and I had to help her organize and pack. And third, my niece got engaged.

I am going to tat her earrings for the ceremony and her bridesmaids as well. At least that is what she wants at this point. I am so excited to get a new nephew, my first nephew-in-law. (Is that really a thing?) We met him over the weekend as well. He's a nice guy.

So, with all that excitement and my dad's no screen request yesterday's post was delayed to today.

Tatted jewelry is perfect for weddings! The delicacy and, for some even more talented than I, intricacy of the final construction can be tailored to suit the bride and her dress. For my cousin's wedding I did butterfly earrings. Now, at that time I had only been tatting for a year, they were bigger than I would recommend today. My cousins were in a crochet cotton size 10 I believe. And it horrified me to remember how heavy they were compared to what I make now. However, my cousin was thrilled to tears as butterflies represented our grandmother who had passed just before my cousin graduated. She had been close with our grandmother.

These days I would go no larger than a size 20 thread, and my preference is the Lizbeth threads I can order from Handy Hands. I've shared about Handy Hands website before www.hhtatting.com but let me mention one thing I forgot last time. I strongly advise signing up to get their newsletter. You get coupons and occasionally thread samples. These samples always end up being enough for a jewelry set. I.E. necklace, earrings and bracelet. And while paying for a newsletter may seems a bit much, I like the free shipping you can earn.

My task over the next few weeks will be to determine my nieces wedding theme, colors and number of brideamaids. Then order my supplies. My excitement of tatting for a wedding is only surpassed by my niece being the bride.

Congrats baby girl, Aunt E loves you!

Happy tatting friends and good day.
